Som Tum
Spicy Green Papaya Salad (Som tum or Som tam) is a popular dish from the North-Eastern part of Thailand, but can be found anywhere across the Kingdom in restaurants and food stalls. Som tum is a fantastic raw Thai salad often made of shredded and unripen papaya, sliced tomatoes, raw green beans, peanuts, crushed dried mini shrimp, and fresh garlic, although you could also add carrots. A sweet, salty, and tangy sauce made of sugar, lime juice, and fish sauce completes the dish. Don’t be afraid to try the original Isan style papaya salad, known as Som Tam Bpoo Pla ra. You can tell the cook to make the dish suited to your specific taste and requirements. Green papaya salad is often served with sticky rice and Kai Yang (grilled chicken).
