Maenam Night Market in Koh Samui
Maenam Night Market ,Koh Samui
Every Thursday evening, the sleepy resort town of Maenam comes alive with its very own Walking Street Night Market. This is a mini version of Bangkok’s Patpong Market but without the crowds and sleaze. The event is set in the street leading to the town’s Chinese temple, with each side of the pedestrianised thoroughfare crammed with stalls selling everything from food through to local handicrafts and artworks.
The food stall section of the street is divided clockwise into the stages of a meal, with snacks and main courses found first and including tempura prawns, barbecued squid, curried meat dishes with rice, samosas and pizza slices. Following is the dessert section with its delicious ice creams, pancakes with fresh fruit syrup, mangoes and many other varieties of fruit. At the end of this gorgeous outdoor food court, you can buy a tasty fruit and alcohol cocktail for around 50 baht.
The retail section of the market is found leading up to and on the steps of the Chinese Temple. Here you will find local carvings, ceramics, silks, home décor items, clothes, shoes at great prices, handbags and all kinds of fun souvenirs. Entertainers and musicians perform on the street, known for its family-friendly feel and mix of expats, tourist and local all having fun in the warm night air.
