Valentine Stone and Sivatara Waterfall in Koh Samui
Valentine Stone and Sivatara Waterfall, Koh Samui
There are plenty of things to do and see on Koh Samui, and after spending a few days here you will realize why it is such a popular holiday island.
The Valentine Stone is one of the lesser visited attractions on this beautiful island, and we will explain more about it and the park it sits in shortly, but let’s first understand a little more about the island itself.
Valentine Stone
Valentine Stone makes a great “day trip” and sits in a park which is around one kilometer before the town of Lamai. The park itself has a waterfall, a viewpoint and the ‘Stone’ all in one area.
The history of the stone is unknown, but it is shaped like a huge heart, and local legend has it that if lovers touch the stone together then their love for each other will be endless.
The Sivatara Waterfall
This waterfall is close to the Valentine Stone. While it’s not the most spectacular on the island (waterfall aficionados should try Na Muang Waterfall instead), it still is lovely. Visit during the wetter times of the year to see it in full flow, but it adds to the atmosphere in a calm and natural setting.
The Viewpoint
From the Valentine Stone you take a pleasant 15-minute uphill walk through the forest to reach the viewpoint. When you reach your destination you will see that every step of your journey has been worthwhile.
The view sweeps across natural hilly countryside all the way down to Lamai beach with its sparkling sea. You will spend a while here taking in the amazing land and seascape before heading back to the base.
There is a restaurant close to the entrance, so if you feel hungry or thirsty it is a handy place to rest awhile before heading off in search of other natural attractions. One which is close by is the far more popular Hin Ta and Hin Yai Rocks, or, to you and me, The Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks.
These are set on the island’s rocky coastline between Lamai and Hua Thanon. The rocks are naturally shaped in the form of male and female genitalia, and should produce a giggle or two amongst your party.
There is an interesting story behind these rocks which is a rich part of Samui’s folklore, but that tale is for another day!
The Valentine Rock – Getting there and opening times
You should drive towards Lamai and about one kilometer from town there are signs for The Valentine Rock – It is down a lane which is Moo 3, Lamai, Maret.
The park with the Valentine Rock, Sivatara Waterfall and the beautiful Viewpoint is open from breakfast time until the restaurant at its base closes. There is a small entrance fee.
